Our Year in Pictures

So to be honest, James and I are not out there partying it up tonight. The kids are asleep and I just got back from the gym. James just left for the gym. I thought this would be a good time to look back over 2010. What a year. Beatrice went from baby to toddler and Ambrose went from hope to reality. I've got pictures to take us from January up to now. Here we go:

Haha- I was pregnant again and didn't know it yet!

This was our anniversary! So special to spend it with our daughter in Cleveland park where we fell in love and later had an important conversation in which we agreed we were ready to start our family.

Baby Gaga

I love to see James like this! We went on a cheap date (fast food and the park) and laughed until our poor little faces hurt.

James looking good -all that gym time and healthy eating paying off!

Beatrice always trying to get away...

My sweet little Beatrice got so big! This was the month of our last honeymoon as I liked to say. I spent so much time with her just soaking in those final days of having an only child. She kinda got spoiled.

We got James Ambrose!

He got bigger!

Christmas PJs on both of 'em!

May 2011 be a year filled with glitter and perfectly placed falsies!

It has been absolutely impossible to blog because every time I sit down here somebody sweet decides he needs Mama Cuddle Time. How can I resist?

Also, I'd like to share an artist I stumbled upon today whose work is impossibly lush. Her name is Piia Põdersalu Harris and her shop is here.

Merry Christmas!

I got a nice surprise this morning for Christmas---
This is on

My Room: Beatrice & Ambrose
Greenville, SC

Beatrice made room for her brother Ambrose and their mom Lily put on her design cap to re-envision this room for two: This little nursery used to be very, very girly. But along with a new brother, Bea's room got a makeover!

Goal 6: Start a Drawing Club

Okay, this is ambitious, I know. We are all so busy. But how hard would it be to get together once or twice a month, in the evening or on the weekend, and draw? Just sit and draw. Maybe drink some wine, eat some snacks. Talk about art and check out each others recent work. I think it would be a great thing! Anyone could join.

We could take turns modeling for each other or set up a still life (unless we had an overdose in art school and find still-lives murderously boring. And I can totally understand that! Ms. Teresa at Converse killed us with those bottles and gourds.).

P.S. Merry Christmas!!!

Goal 5: Do Fun Photo-shoots with James

We did this awesome photo-shoot in 2010. That night is one of my best memories of the past year. SO MUCH FUN. The pictures are really goofy, but we really got into it and laughed like never before! I need that more often!

Goal 4: Make Drawing a Habit

It's so hard to find time to draw, but if I can find time to check facebook, I can MAKE time to draw, right? Right! I think I might need an accountability partner for this and I have someone in mind...
I'll share my drawings with you here if I make any good ones!

Space Issues

James and I need to figure out some storage solutions. Our apartment is too tight right now. And it's not because we have too much stuff. It's just a really tiny apartment! I could do some over-the-door shelves such as that one. I found all the parts at Hobby Lobby. Also, I talked to Daddy about actually building some storage space like so:

I think this is a lovely idea for shoes:
Some things you just need to store away and some things you want to display. If I had a cabinet like this one, I would have books with attractive book-ends on top.

We simply have too many books, though. But there's no way we can narrow down our library. We've already parted with so many of our beloved books to fit in here. Now the books line even the kitchen cabinets and overflow from the linen closet to the kids' closet! Some ingenuous bookshelves are needed! Maybe like this:
Because that doesn't protrude into the room, taking up precious space. Plus, you get to look at the lovely book covers!

The kids' room also needs help and I've had some shelves like these in mind for a while...
So simple, right? We've been talking about renewing our lease here come March and I think the only way we could take this for another year would be if we really just invested in some solutions...

Goal 3: Create a unique look for each member of the family

This is purely for fun! I love sewing clothes and I like the challenge of making something for each of us that fits our personalities as well as our figures.

For James, I'm thinking something silver and glittery that he can wear onstage.  With sequins most likely. Hand-sewn couture is the only way with that one, you know.

For myself, I dress. A pretty dress. A dress too pretty to just wear around the house or out to get groceries. A little number with some frill to it.

For Beatrice, hmmmm. Okay, for the kids I'll make something embarrassingly matchy-matchy that they will hate when they see pictures in years to come! (Just kidding! I can't plan their looks because they change so quickly when they are this young. I'll have to base their looks on the way they are when I sit down to sew!)

Once Upon a Time

I've had this project on the back burner for awhile, but a few days ago I pulled it out and finished it up! This is just a little sneak peek of my brand new picture book. I used pen, watercolor and a bit of collage for the illustrations.
I'll let you know when I have the first edition (self-)published so you can get your very own copy!

What to Wear?

What should Bea's Christmas look be this year? Here are the options:

1. Last year's dress plus a sweater, mama-made pants and awesome boots.

2. Space-age, frilly winter look.

3. All-out-Christmas! A red velvet vintage dress paired with green candy-cane leggings. (shoes needed)
