My Kids Part 1

You are silly, smart and independent. You love Cars, especially 'Mater. You are stingy with hugs so I put on Mulan because you hold me tight when the Huns are on screen. You are suddenly tall and your hair got long fast. You can count to ten faster than me. You don't know all your ABCs yet, but you say the names of friends and family when you see their first initial. (You've got about 15 letter sounds so far.) You still love Dr Seuss as much as you did when you were Amby's age, only now you can read parts to me. You're a Daddy's (and Grampa's) girl. You scream, "I feel so happy!" and that makes us all happy!

Mr. Scrunchy Face

This is how Am tells us that he wants something or that he is hungry or angry. Or happy. Or jealous. This face pretty much encompasses his whole range of emotions and desires. And it makes me want to eat him right on up.

He stands confidently and will walk any day. I asked him to please not do it when Mama's at school. Wait for me to come home to you, my baby!

Trading Roles

Last night when I finally got home from a long day at school, the children were clean, dressed and happy. The house was clean, all the dishes put away, beds made, clean. There was sweet tea for me and James had even made COOKIES.

That's IT. We are trading. I will go and earn our living and James can keep house.

Something Very Exciting

If you only listen to one, let it be I Love The Living You. No listen to them all.

It's almost hard to for me to listen to though because I can't help really missing people I love. I shouldn't have to miss them. They are family and they are still alive so they should be here and we should all be drinking wine and making each other laugh and wearing funny clothes and singing. Like we used to.

What I Wore: Zissou Edition

Because I have had my nose in my books rather than in my online circuit lately, I missed out on a pretty cool party over at Paper Sparrow. It was a one day Wes Anderson celebration. Funny thing is, I already had this post planned. My brother Justus and I share a love for Wes' movies and plan to have a film fest to view them in order over the course of a few days or weeks. This is what I wore will not wear because it turns out that (after you have a few kids anyway) there is such a thing as too short.

I do kinda wish I had a pretty little yellow bow to complete this thrifted look.

I just know you are wondering what I wore for my first day back in school. It was this one. What's more interesting, though, is what I wore to orientation (think cotton candy on a rainy day...), but you'll have to wait because I don't have pictures.

I'm starting school tomorrow and I don't have very much *extra* time. Hopefully I'll be able to post fairly often, but we shall see......

Savoring the Sweet Things

Like my kids in the shower! It is a new favorite activity and is necessary at least once every day.
Also, I am re-doing the nursery and using vintage toys and books to decorate. I found THIS on etsy. Pretty dern tempting...

Ready or not here comes Fall: school, tax law, childcare, homework. Am I ready? Who knows?

I will be going to school in Spartanburg, which a means 45 minute commute 2 days a week. Isobel and my mom will keep the kids on Tuesdays and James is taking Thursdays off to watch them. He will be in tax class every Thursday night this month and again later in the semester.

Have to admit that as nervous as I am about the hectic-o-meter, I am pretty darn excited about getting back into college after a 5 year hiatus!

Wish List: Dresses

Here are some dresses I've been lusting over this week. Can't seem to convince myself they are worth so much of my paypal accumulation, but they are nice to wish for.

I love the colors here and I'm kinda dying to have a dress that magically stays up (now that I have a cute and super supportive vintage bustier :). I would bring the hem up about a foot. This is a whopping $40 plus shipping. Yikesies. (shop)

On the temptation scale, this dress falls a bit higher simply because it is only $10. I really like it, but for some reason I think James wouldn't. No matter how progressive and independent I am as a woman, I still prefer to dress in a way that pleases my husband. I'm just like that. (shop)

I hate this dress, but I also want to wear it. Don't ask, I can't explain. I like to walk that line between really interesting/cool/cute/pretty and PLEASE DON'T WEAR THAT. This dress falls somewhere in there. (shop) (fyi, right now i'm wearing a hot pink, blousy romper with a teal elastic belt featuring a clam clasp)

I feel like this picture is a little awkward, but I KNOW this dress is beyond perfect. It is pink, silky, asian, vintage and for some reason not mine. (shop)

Every time I see this dress hanging out in my etsy favorites, I applaud my self control. It has been there for a few months and I have not added to cart. So $36 is possibly more than I've ever spent on a dress (my wedding dress was only slightly more), but look how beautiful this is! The kimono style fabric, the details in the bodice. The lace? Mmmmhmmm. (shop)

Good Morning, Beautifuls!

Our Morning:

7:30 get up and sneak into the kitchen to start the coffee. Go pick up an adorable boy who is making sweet noises. Open Bea's door to find her emerging from under her quilt. Sing "good morning to you" and change diapers and cuddle.

7:45 Curl up on the couch with a book and a cup of coffee while the kiddos play together on the floor. Give them breakfast once I have ingested a sufficient amount of caffeine.

8:00 Tidy up the outer rooms, make beds, get dressed. Pick out a few toys, fill a basin with water and head outside to play before it gets too hot! Play until we are muddy, wet messes.

8:45 Come inside and stick Bea in the bath, rinse Am in the sink and put on fresh diapers.

9:00 Snack time for kids while I clean the kitchen.

9:20 Bottle Am and talk to Bea while she plays. Read her a story or two.

9:30 Nap time!!

11:00 Wake up time and change those dipes again. Clean the nursery (with the door closed because the drier is running and it is super loud), stopping to read books whenever Beatrice asks.

11:30 We all go into the kitchen for lunch. Bea has a plate of cheese, black olives and a ham-tortilla-wrap.

Am has something green that he thinks is a drink.

Then I catch Am trying to booze it up. Too bad the bottle is capped and empty.

12:00 Wash everybody up and put fresh clothes on-- We made it through the morning!
