I started out with Book of Fires by Jane Borodale. In 1752, an unwanted pregnancy and a theft force 17 year old Agnes to flee her country past and head to London. After a rapid series of events, she finds herself apprentice to a strange, brooding character. Mr. Blocklock is a fireworks maker. In the days that follow, Agnes' swiftly changing body drives her to form a plan to save herself, but it seems that Blacklock has plans of his own...
Now I am reading Lady Vernon and Her Daughter. Based on Jane Austen's novella Lady Susan, it has been expanded into a full-fledged novel by Jane Rubino and Caitlen Rubino-Bradway, a mother and daughter team. It is too soon to say much about the book as I just started it, but I will let you know!

Illustration Inspiration: Lisbeth Zwerger
It is interesting to think that many of our tastes are formed by first impressions. When I became interested in art and illustration as a teenager, I went to the library for inspiration. I found a whole collection of Zwerger's work and I was so in love. I poured over that book! It was a world that I wanted to melt into, as frightening and dark as it could be. Something about the lines and the smoothness and simplicity drew me.
Then , Mama informed me that when I was very young (2 or 3), I had a book of Thumbelina illustrated by Lisbeth Zwerger. At that age, I had learned to love her work and it stuck with me.

My Favorite Music (for right now anyway...)
1.of Montreal, Aldhils Arboretum era. I can't help it! Springtime brings back musical memories. Call me sentimental, but I fell in love with James to the songs on this album. I can't get it out of my head or out of the CD player!
2. Polyphonic Spree. Talk about positive energy and just being totally excited to be alive and in love with life! This music really gets me going.
3. Switched On Bach by Wendy Carlos. This basically plays on repeat in our house. It is utterly cool. Beatrice and I dance along and she loves it too!

Why April Is The Best Month
1. James and I met in April and fell in love in the glowing green of Spring's first days. It was a magical time. Now every April, our love is rekindled as we remember our first kisses, holding hands, the parks and all the places where we started this fast and unstoppable fall. A fall that resulted in...
2. ...Beatrice! She was born April 12th of 2009. Now, we get to celebrate her every April as well. What a special month this is in our family!
