A Rundown of Our Long Saturday...

Beatrice woke up on the wrong side of the crib. She was teething, actually- fever and all. There was no morning nap. So I had the brilliant idea to take her to the zoo! She was a lot better out of the house because she was distracted from her discomfort. James had taken her to the zoo a few months ago, but she just wasn't big enough to really enjoy it. This time, she had a lot of fun!

Oh, she was captivated by the elephants! She'd only seen them in books and had no idea of their real life size!

After the zoo, we went to Jason's Deli for lunch. My brother Cooper works there and we got to see him. He's always so busy with school, work and practicing organ these days that no one ever really gets to see him.

Beatrice actually took a good afternoon nap.

While she slept, James and I worked on current projects. It's really neat to me that right now our projects sort of overlap for once. We are both making books. Very different sorts of books, but still.

Cooper stopped by while Bea was asleep. We didn't tell her because she would be very sad to have missed him!

Oh, but she woke up from her nap on the wrong side of the crib again. Ugh! We could think of nothing other than just taking her to the mall to walk around and see all the people. It wasn't the most fun thing in the world, but it did distract her from her discomfort and it was free. Life will be so much better when this little girl finally has all of her teeth!!! (But then her brother will start getting his.)

We finally got her in bed for the night and didn't even know what to do with ourselves!

Goodwill Finds!

This three piece suit. Lovely, no? And here it is without the jacket:

These overalls with their matching shirt:

And these adorable tops. The yellow one was the only one with bottoms attached.
These things make me happy!

Killing My Husband (with kindness)

I made frappuccinos for us!

I love the ones Starbuck's sells, but they are so expensive. These ones taste so similar it is incredible!!! Yum!

Would you like to see James experience the splendor?
Warily approaching the straw...
Cold contact...
A stray coconut shaving lodges in throat...
Near death experience.
Recovery!
 Here's the recipe:

Combine in blender-
  • a lot of ice
  • a cup or so of coffee (I used decaf)
  • a generous drizzle of caramel or chocolate syrup (I used caramel)
  • some sugar (I used raw to feel good about myself)
  • some cocoa if you'd like
  • Cool Whip if you like the idea ( I couldn't tell that it made any difference)
  • enough milk to make it blend up
Blend until smooth, then add a flourish of Cool Whip sprinkled with cocoa and drizzled with whatever syrup you used. I also threw some coconut shavings in the blender but I don't recommend it. You saw what happened to James...

:::::::Lucy is my friend::::::::

We kind of feed off of each other. In a good way. When I know she is making things, creating prototypes, painting, learning, I just have to keep up. I think and hope it goes both ways. She is also very fashion forward which is inspiring. And she does my hair. I can't wait for her to open her etsy store!!! You can see what she's working on here and get to know her a bit here.

This is what she looks like:
Sometimes her hair is bright...
and sometimes her hair is light.

She is out of town right now, but when she comes back I hope we can get together for a crafternoon!
