Sketchbooking

James and I are going to be participating in a month-long sketchbook project. Not the Sketchbook Project, but a sketchbook project. We will start September first and draw every day in that month. I even made us some sketchbooks:
Mine is made out of a used envelope. James' is made of card-stock. I carved a bird and stamped it on the front. Each one has 32 pages and is hand stitched. Our theme will be Escapism. I'm so excited!!

Want to join the fun?

So not even fair, it's disgusting.

Okay, I'm going to show you this picture even though it just about makes me sick:
Go ahead and click on it so you can see it bigger. You see those legs? Are they not disgustingly beautiful? Well, guess what, you can't write her off as someone who just sits around looking pretty.

(Confession: sometimes I find it easier not to be jealous of total prettiness if I comfort myself with the thought that the model is not the creative brain behind the prettiness and at least I have that.)

She is also the photographer. She also hosts a very interesting and inspiring blog. It turns out this lovely person, Shae Acopian Detar, is also very creative and original. And pretty. And she has an amazing collection of clothes and costumes and props that would make you drool.

See for yourself here.

These are from her online portfolio.

Goo Goo Goggles

Thanks to Dr. Seuss*, Beatrice is infatuated with glasses. Mine, especially.
*You know, from the ABC Book:
"Big G
little g
What begins with G?
Goat, Girl, Goo Goo Goggles
G, G, G"

Style Inspiration: J. Crew Fall 2010

Wow- I really like all this heavy layering. And there are some nice delicate elements that balance it just right!

The model is super skinny, of course. But I think this type of layering would work well for someone not-so-skinny also. Someone, say, who just had a baby and was waiting for her body to go back to normal...
