Almodovar

I just wish there were enough Almodovar movies so that I could watch one every day. Every day. The colors, the stories, the people, the writing. All so amazing. That combination of heart and quirk is some kind of alchemy. Talk to Her and All About My Mother and Volver and Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown. Oh, all of them.

There was one I didn't get through, but I can't remember the name of it. It was Antonio Banderas as a disturbed young man. I might try it again. Do you know the one I'm talking about?

Anyway, tonight we watched Volver for the umpteenth time. Therefore, obviously, my hair and makeup and shape are going to be more intense for the next few days because how could they possibly not be?

A

A is for Almodovar.

He's one of my favorite directors. I love the way he tells stories, all of which feature strong, interesting women. I love that he has muses that span decades, like Carmen Maura.

He gives me beautiful colors. And with one single movie (Volver starring Penelope Cruz!) made me turn away from my tom-boyish ways and embrace femininity! (For awhile there I spent my evenings practicing eye make-up...)

So good! Really, I've liked all his movies. There was only one that I enjoyed less than the rest, Bad Education, even though Gael Garcia Bernal is the star.

(That movie just deals with some issues I'm not comfortable with.)

Talk To Her is great if you are new to Almodovar...

Which ones have you seen?
