Being sick, James and I are watching more TV than usual. Which means Netflix. We are in the middle of the Wikileaks/Julian Assange documentary on there. Have you seen it?
I remember when I first heard about him on NPR and it was all sex scandal stuff that just seemed so far fetched and bogus. Back then, I still really looked up to NPR as a balanced, honest news source. But I smelled a rat in that whole mess. Assange has been holed up in the Ecuadorian Embassy in the UK for, what, over a year now right?
And it is so obvious that they want to shut him up, they want him dead and gone and forgotten. But not for these made up charges (of consensual sex without protection). Rather, he is responsible for leaking anonymously submitted classified documents that reveal abuses and even illegal U.S. military activity.
One of Julian Assange's biggest supporters is Daniel Elssberg who released the Pentagon Papers in 1971, revealing what really went on in Vietnam. From his website, linked to his name, "Since the end of the Vietnam War, Ellsberg has been a lecturer, writer and activist on the dangers of the nuclear era, wrongful U.S. interventions and the urgent need for patriotic whistleblowing."
I think it is very important for us to be critical, inform ourselves and dig deeper.

Politics!
So my blog fits fairly comfortably in a little blog niche. We girls blog about our outfits and our kids (human or feline) and how much we love vintage and a variety of nerdy and/or craft related things. I love these blogs so much and I really hope that this post doesn't get me knocked right out of the loop...
Because in our niche? We avoid politics like the plague.
I mentioned on here recently that I have been interested in some things and I'm ready now to explain myself. Here's what I am interested in: Occupy Wall Street, a people powered movement to end the monied corruption of our democracy.
After spending a good deal of time looking into the movement and what it is all about and the goals and strategies, I find that I really do identify with it. (If you are interested in learning about it, try this site, read this article, check out this blog.)
However, I differ in one area: VOTING
Part of #OWS --as I understand it-- is that the system is so messed up, needs to be completely restructured, overhauled, that participation is moot. In fact, you are actually contributing to the problem if you vote. But I disagree.
The way I see it, there are two parties, right? One that accomplishes very little and one that actively tries to destroy everything good. So, even if you are voting for the lesser of two evils, as they say, at least one evil is much, much lesser than the other. You know?

3
Beatrice got this Star Wars shirt for her birthday. They didn't have any Dune shirts is all :P
I guess I should just say this already: I am political right now. Maybe it is a streak, maybe it is a way of life. Maybe my forever future. I don't know. But I am embracing my inner activist. SOOO, maybe I will blog as much as ever, but if not, it's for a good reason. If I do continue to get on here fairly regularly, don't be surprised if you see some opinions surface.
If you are curious about the issues I am studying and/or supporting, just ask! There is a contact button on the nav bar ^_^

Politics
If you are interested in what's going down in the presidential race, I recommend you check out my friend's blog. On Politically Confused, Josh delves into the meaty issues and backs up his statements with links so you can read for yourself. He gives statistics (which I love) and also shares his opinions (which I tend to see as fair and based on a logical view of what's what and all). As you can see from the title, he is not married to either side.
