Easter, Part I

The kids spent the night with their grandfolks last night, so James and I had a party! We wii danced like a bunch of fools and broke our fast and had dark wine with some of our favorite people. There are pictures, but they are far from flattering.

James and I slept in. It is an amazing thing to wake naturally at 8:16 in a quiet house. I made coffee and started the long, arduous process of putting myself together. (I wish it was like in olden [Marie Antoinette] times when visitors called on ladies while they were in their toilettes [dressing rooms, not bathrooms] and everyone caught up on gossip and had their hair done and faces applied like that.) It doesn't really take that long, but Easter is special.

I wanted to go to Mass, but instead went to the Presbyterian service. It was lovely. I think I was a little overdressed in a full length lace-over-satin gown amidst a crowd of cotton and denim. But for Jesus, on the day of His resurrection? I will wear my finest. (even when I go to church alone)

*likes*

(via)

Ooh, I'm not a tattoo girl, but that one is awfully cute.

So in my last post, I was pretty stressed out by the amount of work I have ahead of me. I'm just in the middle of SO MUCH right now with lots of looming deadlines! But tonight I made lists and mapped out a path to completing all these things. Listing makes life easier to deal with.

So does red wine.

School

What a busy week, you guys. And it's only Wednesday!

How was school difficult and time hard to manage before I had kids and a house to keep up with and laundry and mouths to feed? How did I possibly struggle to turn things in on time? Wasn't I just swimming in freedom? Nope, I totally took it for granted.

When people in my classes complain that they don't have time to get everything done and then talk about all the fun they have with their friends, I just smile.

I definitely don't have enough time to get all my school work done on time. But mostly because I am making mud pies and reading stories to babies.

Mini Crit

Tomorrow in Graphic Design class, we are having a mini critique for our current project. We are designing book covers for a series. We get to choose three books by different authors. The books should have some common thread or connection.

These are my preliminary sketches that I will show tomorrow. I have a backup set in a completely different vein in case these are rejected. Of course, they'll be super refined (these are scanned from my sketchbook), but I think you can see where I'm going with it:

That last one is a bit lost in scanslation. Hard to see what's going on. Anyway. I'm having fun! :)

Have you read any of these books??

James

Eight years ago today, I got out of work early. There was an art exhibit opening and I just had to go. It was 45 minutes away and there wasn't anyone to go with me, but that didn't matter. I really felt that it was important for me to be there.

Well, I saw some great art. In a studio upstairs, I stood in front of a huge painting -the size of a wall. It was a woman in a green gown, beautiful and mesmerizing. When I turned around, there was this guy.

We walked downtown and he held my hand. The next day we met to walk a nature trail. The next night we went to the top of a mountain and looked at the stars. It was Spring Break. We saw each other every day. When I went back to school, my friends could tell something had changed.

Six months to the day after we met, he gave me a ring. We were married on Valentine's Day.

We played music and lived by the sea. Went through all that stuff that is supposed to build character. Then one day, we decided that it was now or never and doubled our numbers...

Happy anniversary, Babe. I love you all the much that I can!

MmmmHmmm

This is something I love. Bright, moving colors. Pretty girls with blue hair. Yes. Yes. Yes.

It is from tumblr with no source info. If you know where it came from let this mama know so I can send them a thank you card.

Atlanta

James and I came back from Atlanta super inspired and excited. There are so many things I have to say and all I need is time and paint. And carving/printing supplies! We went to a printing workshop and saw some really great pieces. Oh, so great!

Highlights of the trip:
Edie Sedgwick's screen test
THIS artist's work at the Bill Lowe Gallery
THIS painting
Henri Matisse
Graffiti inspired paintings in a church basement

James blogged about the trip here.
