Goal #2

Exhibit artwork. This will pretty much be a first for me and I'm honestly not sure how to go about it. If you have any suggestions, please do share!

I want to exhibit because art can be so lonely. I don't want to do painting after paining, print after print, drawing after drawing, just to see them collect dust. I want to share my work! And if I can sell a few I certainly won't complain.

I think the easy way to exhibit would be to join the local art society and be included in one of their member shows. That is a possibility.

Other than that, what do people do? Go around to galleries and ask for some wall space? I don't know, but I will find out.

Something for my girl...

I started this more than a year ago and just picked it up again the other day. I love the B. There is something very satisfying to me about cross-stitch. To look at I mean. I don't really enjoy doing it because it is so tedious. Hmmm, now that I think of it, though, it might be a good activity for the stationary bike. I usually listen to Dune or look at a magazine. And that one time I watched Seinfeld.

James and I are lucky that they are so young still and won't know the difference if this is a very pinche Christmas. Bea will get a Pooh bear that I found for nothing on ebay, but I don't think little Ambrose is getting anything. From us. 

He'll probably get a grandparent gift or two.

But we have our tiny Christmas tree and we have a whole lot of Christmas Spirit. 

And we have bushels and bushels of love 

and that's what matters, right?

A Dune-inspired look for Fall 2010.

A Book Post

I've been into these Dune books for a month or two. Here's the first one.

James is reading it now. This is the one in which Paul rises from boy to hero. Kinda like the first Star Wars movie.

Dune is a saga. I only read the first one and the subsequent ones I've had to get on CD from the library. Because our library doesn't have any Frank Herbert books. Lame.

The next book is:

In this book, Paul is tempted to turn to the dark side in order to save his beloved from suffering. She ends up dying in the birth of their twin children (a boy and a girl) after which Paul-- well, I won't give it away. But you've seen Star War, right? Dune is where George Lucas got all of his best ideas.

The next book is:

This is where knowledge of Star Wars won't get you anywhere. This book chronicles the events that occur when the twins are nine years old. It is a critical year. This one made me tear up a little in a few places. The children make some enormous sacrifices for mankind.

Now I'm in the fourth:

It's a little hard to get into because it takes place 3000 years after the previous books. And I pretty much only get to listen to it when I walk the treadmill or do the stationary bike. But there is a Star Wars parallel- Jabba the Hut is in this one. The Dune equivalent anyway- face and arms on the body of a worm. Yuck-o!

They all look so warm and cozy. I don't want to eat them, I want to vacation in them :)

Goal 1: Do 12 Paintings

That's a painting a month. Of course if I finish one and want to start another before the next month, whatever. I want these paintings to be a coherent series. Themes and subject matter have yet to be decided although I have some ideas.

I'm planning on working largely on wood. And I want to do big paintings- maybe a 24"x24" minimum? I may sketch them out on paper or smaller pieces of wood.
