Time Enough

When I was sitting for all those hours in the hospital room, I occupied my mind with this book, Time Enough For Love by Robert A. Heinlein. It is a futuristic, sci-fi/fantasy novel that so far doesn't touch Dune, but still offers quite a bit of interest and fun.

I didn't get very far because we all talked an awful lot and watched this weird reality game show about competitive tattooing as well as the last half of Gladiator, the first third of Book of Eli and Fracture in its entirety. And I'll admit I took some naps. Because if I have to sit in a stuffy room, wear a hospital gown and sit in a chair that can't not recline, I'm going to get sleepy. As would you.

This last picture makes me want to start a new blog all about how to look ridiculous. But I don't know how, it just comes naturally.

Braids and Brains

I love this kind of braid because it looks like a really goofy bowl cut if you squint. But it is impossible to wear a braid like this and glasses. So now you get to see my face out there exposed and all.

I've been hiding behind glasses for half my life now. Every time I start thinking of contacts, I lose the nerve. My glasses are an integral part of my identity. I longed for them for years before they were necessary. They just make me look smarter. Or maybe they make me look as smart as I am, not smarter than I am. Or maybe I'm really smarter than I look.

One time when we were playing monopoly, Hudson accidentally said, "I don't look as dumb as I am." It was an uncharacteristic slip and we never let him forget it.

What I Wore: The Warhol Dress

Tomorrow James and I are going to Atlanta. We will see one hundred works by fourteen artists from Picasso to Warhol at the High Museum. It is a school trip. We get to ride on a bus for two and a half hours with thirty four other people. On the way back we will watch Midnight In Paris. Don't let the lack of exclamation points fool you: I Am Excited!

For those of you who watch RuPaul's Drag Race, you may be interested to know that James will be wearing this shirt with this jacket.

Bea's Specs

They are toddler sized bi-focals and so adorable. BUT I don't let her wear them because they could damage her eyes from the strain. She found them at a thrift store and insisted upon adding them to her dress-ups. I also don't let her play with that camera, but she doesn't mind because she knows it is special. See those Mary and Laura braids Bea is wearing? Every day. And we talk about Mary and Laura while I do her hair. I totally and completely love being a mama.

What I Wore: $2 Outfit

Okay, so I already had the shoes. But the skirt and blouse were both hanging out as neighbors on the $1 rack at Goodwill! I get really excited when I find pretty vintage things in my exact waist size: 26 inches. And the pockets on this skirt are such a nice touch.

The glasses were free from Coastal. You get your first pair free which I think is an AWESOME DEAL! There were so many frames to choose from that I spent a few days making my selection. Oh, and I want to get these ones for James. I just have to get his prescription from the eye doctor. Luckily, I thought to get mine on paper when I last got my eyes checked!

James' Collection of Glasses

James and I have similar taste. We can go out matching if we want to-- right down to our glasses.

Collection: Glasses

Apparently, I horde glasses. Whenever I get new ones, I keep the old ones and sometimes still wear them, despite the out-of-date prescription!

I used to really have a problem with the shape and girth my nose. So as a teen (because my nose was so impossible to diminish in any way), I really wanted glasses to hide behind. Finally, at age 14, I got an eye exam and my first pair. Thick, plastic, tortoise-shell perfection. They eventually got smashed (in a totally worth it manner) and I began a long and frustrating relationship with America's Best Contacts and Eyeglasses.

Here you may enjoy viewing my collection, sans one pair I cannot find. I'm afraid there is no avoiding seeing my nose many times also, unless of course you were to close your computer and walk away which I recommend you do immediately.

 1. Vintage with someone else's prescription. But they were made for me!
2. Math Nerd
3. These were my one and only's for years. *true love*
4. Copying James
5. Ms. Professional
6. All at once?
7. These ones are my everyday go-to glasses. They go on my face as soon as I wake up in the morning. Every day.

Honesty, a confession

I am very self-conscious about all the freckles/moles on my face. They aren't the cute, light-orange ones like ginger people have, they are dark and irregular and hard to cover up. But after watching Mean Girls and wishing Lindsay Lohan would turn it out instead of wearing so much make-up, I decided to show you the honest, unedited version of the photo of myself that I included in my post earlier.
