This Week :: a link and list post 3

So I just spent a few days at a leadership conference required by University of South Carolina Upstate of one officer per club. (Someone from Club Art and Design had to go or we could jeopardize our funding for the year.) It was held at a Presbyterian Conference Center. There was a church, prayer room, religious artifacts, etc. Is that ok? I mean, I had a great time and learned so much, but I'm concerned about state funding going to a religious institution for a group of people of whom only about 60% identified as Christian.

(Of those non-Christians, this was one. Interesting, eh?)

Ok, moving on. This is a pretty great post about real women.

I love this blog, Strawberry Mohawk. Check out this post about movies for little girls! I got some good ideas here. Ambrose is obsessed with The Nightmare Before Christmas. The comment section here reminded me of Coraline. I think that would make a good counterpoint. Right?

This article from Vanity Fair is totally fascinating to me. It's from back in, what, March? But I just got around to reading it. Glad I did.

A Nobel for Manning?

And just in case anyone needed a reminder.

A Silly Dress and Links

When I got excited about finding this dress at the Salvation Army, Emma thought I was insane. But I think I have good, refined, sensible, reasonable –if somewhat eccentric– taste. Sure it's dated, but in the best way.

Things to check out:

Back to the dress, I think I'll wear it before I stick it in my etsy store. After all, I have a pair of cowboy boots and I'm kinda going through a country thing.

HOT

These are some things I would like to be doing right about now:

-making a tutu for Bea
-organizing my craft area
-preparing a delicious dinner
-playing in the yard with the kids
-trying on clothes
-playing music
-dancing
-picking up Lucy
-mopping the kitchen
-working on my geisha painting

BUT IT'S TOO HOT

I know I could just blast out some extreme a/c, but old houses are pretty expensive to cool, you know. Oh, well. The best I can do is dream of the beach. Or a pool. Or the water park where Beatrice and I will be going this Saturday!!

How do you cope when it gets too hot to move or do anything??

Listing

This week I have felt pretty hemmed in. I've been stranded because we have one car and James usually drives it to work. The kids and I have plenty to do, but sometimes all the activities run together in the endless-endless of mamahood.

But today was better. I made a list. I get so much more done and end the day with a sense of accomplishment when I go by a list. And I find that I do a lot more than I set out to do because a schedule makes time. Out of thin air.

My list had some revisions through the day, but it basically went like this:

I got a bit side-tracked in the afternoon when Lucy and Isobel came over. They saw that I only had 1 chapter left in the last HP book and offered to watch the kids while I got through. I needed that! AND Isobel made cookies!!

As always, there were random chunks of time throughout the day when I was on the floor being silly with my babies. :)
